Originally from Chicago, Dr. Millard attended Northwestern University for its journalism program, hoping to become a SportsCenter anchor. A major athletic injury during college sharpened his focus on medicine; he went on to medical school after spending a year volunteering at a medical clinic in India. For his final year of medical training, he was selected for one of only four obesity medicine fellowships in the country. He served previously as an attending physician at the University of Colorado and at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago.
He offers a wealth of experience in weight management, having focused his career on this practice. He finds the field uniquely rewarding because sustained weight loss has the power to alleviate what has often been an unshakeable burden for patients, profoundly changing lives and improving many other medical conditions at the same time. His insights have been featured in numerous major media outlets and he has lectured across the United States on a variety of topics related to obesity.
Dr. Millard lives outside Chicago with his wife, two kids, and their beloved dog. He spends most of his free time with family but loves playing tennis, exercising, or being outdoors whenever possible. He is a recovering Chicago sports fan. If he could add an hour to each day, he’d spend most of it reading for pleasure.
